AMANDA SLOANE

Capturing real, everyday life in Atlanta, Georgia.

This is where I got my love for quilting

I think a lot about documenting the moments that matter most to me – what really makes me think of someone? What things would I miss if they were gone? When it comes to my grandmother, I think about her sewing. I have so many memories quilting alongside her as a child (and adult!). She always has some sort of quilting project under her needle. Except for right now, that is. Right now, in the midst of this pandemic, she’s working on masks. My mother and cousins are working with her, too, and they estimate that together they’ve made over 6,000 masks – all given to those who need them (donations to their cause are of course much appreciated). I shot this quick scene during my last visit and wanted to edit it together to remember this time and as a thank you to all the other volunteers out there working hard behind their sewing machines.
